Troop 83

Welcome to Troop 83, located in sunny Riverview, Florida.

We meet at 7pm on Tuesday nights at the Riverview United Methodist Church,   located on the corner of Riverview Drive and US Hwy 301 just North of the Alafia River.  [Driving Directions]

Troop 83, chartered by Riverview United Methodist Church, has been a Riverview institution for over 44 years.  Our footprints have been placed at all the customary local campgrounds such as Camp Flaming Arrow, Camp Alafia, Camp Broreign, and the Masonic Youth Camp.  Out of state adventures have included Veterans Park SP in Georgia and the numerous trails of the Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico.

"The goodness of a person and of the society he or she lives in often comes down to very simple things and words found in the Scout Law. Every society depends on trust and loyalty, on courtesy and kindness, on bravery and reverence. These are the values of Scouting, and these are the values of Americans."

President George W. Bush

About Us Minimize

Cost

The cost to join Boy Scouts is the national/regional fee plus the subscription fee for 'Boy's Life' magazine, a total of $19.  Troop 83 dues, $60 annually, are used to cover operational expenses such as the cost of merit badges and position patches.  Alternate arrangements will be made for families with hardships.  An active scout who is current in his dues will not be required to make an additional registration payment when the troop re-charters in March.

Troop Committee

The troop committee will usually meet at 6:30 pm on the third Monday of the month at the church.  All interested are encouraged to attend.  We welcome your ideas and assistance.  All parents are expeged to make a contribution to the troop, whether in the form of a committee member, transportation, fund-raising, etc.. We also encourage parents to register as a merit badge counselor in your areas of interest.

What does the troop committee do?

  • Ensures quality leadership is recruited and trained, including Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters.

  • Assigns qualified assistant Scoutmasters to continue the program if the Scoutmaster slot is vacated.

  • Supports leaders in carrying the program.

  • Responsible for finances, adequate funds, and disbursements based on the annual budget developed by the committee.

  • Serves on boards of review and courts of honor.
